Dr. Stanislav Grof (1931 -) is a psychiatrist with over fifty years of experience in the field of altered states of consciousness.
He was born in Prague, where he also completed his studies and began his scientific career. He first researched and actively participated in the validation of the therapeutic potential, then a fairly new and promising substance of LSD and some other psychedelic substances.

In 1967, he was invited to do research at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and since then has lived and worked in the United States. He continued his work as research director at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center. He co-taught at the Henry Phipps Clinic and at Johns Hopkins University.
In 1973, he became a Resident Researcher at the Esalen Institute in California, where he and his wife, Christina, developed a simple method to achieve holotropic states of consciousness: Holotropic Breathwork™.
He also founded the International Association of Transpersonal Psychologists (ITA) and organized and conducted many of its conferences around the world.
He is currently a professor of psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and writes books.

Both theoretical and practical founders of holotropic breathwork are spouses Christina and Stanislav Grof
Many people know Dr. Stanislav Grof as a pioneering researcher in the clinical use of LSD in psychotherapy. Others know him as the founder, with Abraham Maslow, of the movement known as transpersonal psychology. He is, in the opinion of Ken Wilber, “arguably the world’s greatest living psychologist.”
Many people have also heard of the technique that he developed with his wife, Christina Grof, called Holotropic Breathwork™. In 2020 together with Brigitte Grof, he founded a new training program for certified holotropic breathwork practitioners - Grof Legacy Training
2013
In 2013 Stanislav Grof traveled around Europe and spent over a week also in Slovenia. The visit was initially planned with his wife and co-worker Christina Grof, but unfortunately, Christina had to cancel because of health problems.
Stanislav Grof chose Slovenia because of the enthusiastic work of some individuals which includes the organization of HB workshops and HB education, and research on Holotropic Breathwork effects on life.
